Aramana Karat Balagangadharan Nair, widely known as A K B Nair, was born at Nileshwaram in Kasargod district of Kerala .He had his secondary education at   Rajas High School, Nileshwaram and further studies at Govt. Victoria College Palakkad. He obtained Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Political Science. He learnt spiritual scriptures i.e., Bhagawad Geetha, Ramayanam, Mahabharatham , Bhagawatham etc from his father during his childhood. After his 40 years of service in the Income Tax Department, he retired as Administrative Officer in 2005.At the age of 19 he became the follower of  Swami Chinmayananda and served as sevak in the  Chinmaya Mission kendras at Pune, Palakkad  and Calicut. He learnt Bhagawadgeetha directly from Swami Chinmayananda. Acharya is now the President of Sri Kollangott Ayyappa temple, Chevayur, Calicut .He is also the honorary member of the managing committee of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Calicut Kendra. He extends his service as advisor , patron to various temple managing committees in Calicut to help the renovation and other connected activities of the temple. Acharya is the Chairman of Trikaypatta Subrahmanya Swami Temple Renovation Committee, Palazhi , Calicut.

Spiritual Discourse

An ardent exponent of vedic literature , he has been conducting Sreemad Bhagawad  Sapthaham, Ramayana sapthaham, Geetha Gyana Yagnam and  Kshetra Gyana Yagnam at various places in India. He was the first acharya to introduce the concept of Ramayana Saptaham. The Adhyathma Ramayanam text , of Tunchath Ezhuttachan , has been arranged by the acharya in such a manner that it  can be read and explained from start to finish in seven days as sapthaha yagnam on the model of bhagavada sapthaham. He was the first yagnaacharya to conduct a Ramayana Sapthaham at Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Rama, during the month of Karkitakam in the year 2008.After that he also conducted ramayana sapthaham at New Delhi, Vasco da gama in Goa and various other places.

He has also delivered talks on various spiritual, social and cultural topics on the invitation extended by various social and spiritual organizations like Rotary club, Lions Club, Bhagavatha Sathram, Guruvayur Devaswom Board etc. He rendered spiritual discourse at the Revathy pattattanam (annual scholars’ meet), organized by Zamorin Raja of Calicut. Till date he has made more than 6000 talks on various subjects across the country. Acharya’s talks are regularly being broadcast by the All India Radio Calicut and popular audio- visual channels. These talks were looked upon by people as it was providing answer to   many of their doubts.

Literary Works

Apart from his rhetoric skills, he is the author of many books. His first book entitled ‘Temple Culture’ was published by Bharateeya Vichara Kendram ,Calicut.

Bharateeya Vidya Bhavan,Mumbai published the  book ‘Temple Worship’ .This book was released by the former Indian Union President Sri R Venkatraman at Chennai. This book was selected by Berkely Library of California University under the category ‘Rare Books’.

BhagavathGeetha copy.jpgHe has written an exhaustive commentary on the classic text Bhagavad Geetha cotaining 701 slokas entitled ‘Sreemad Bhagawad Geetha Lalitha Vyagyanam’(Malayalam) . This book (containing more than 800 pages )  was published by Ananya Publications, Calicut. Bhasha Samanwaya Vedi ,a literary organization awarded Abhaya Dev memorial  Bhasha Samanwaya Puraskaram (award) for the best book in 2006. This book was received both by the scholars and the general public with appreciation which lead to the publication of the second edition. The release function of the second edition of the said book was done by Dr.M M Basheer (former Professor and Head of the Department of Malayalam Department of Calicut University) and it was received by Dr. A Thyagarajan, the Chairman Vidya Vachaspati V Panoli Trust, Calicut.


Kshethraradhana copy.jpg ‘Kshetraradhana’(malayalam) which contains  more than 400 pages which makes a detailed study of temple worship was published by Ananya Publications Calicut.This book gives complete information on the various aspects related to temple starting from the temple structure, installation of the deity and many other matters which a Hindu needs to know. Apart from above mentioned books, the Poorna publications Calicut have published the following books.

Acharya has been writing the spiritual column of Mathrubhumi daily about Ramayana, Bhagawada and significance of Hindu festivals. His articles were also published by various weekly and monthly magazines and journals, especially Bhavan’s Journal.

The acharya is now writing a commentary on Vishnu Sahasranamam entitled ‘Vishnu Sahasranamam Stotra Lalitha Vyagyanam’ with an intention to publish by the month of September 2009. This book will have more than 1000 pages containing detailed commentary on thousand names of Lord Mahavishnu.

All books written by Acharya is designed for the common people. Hence it can be understood by anyone.. People who thought Bhagavad Geetha was only for scholars proved themselves wrong after reading acharya’s Sreemad Bhagawad Geetha Lalitha Vyagyanam’.
