After 1,136 years, Sidhavinayaka Mahayaga to be held in Kannur

Preparations are underway for the Sidhavinayaka Mahayaga, which is to be conducted at Chirakkal Rajas High School ground in Kannur from April 16th to May 2nd. The organisers said that the yaga will be performed after a gap of 1,136 years.

The last Sidhavinayaka Mahayaga was performed at Varanasi. A theerthasnana on April 16 will mark the start of the Mahayaga and will be followed by a panchgavya seva. Singing of bhajans during guruvnadanam will precede other rituals.

Entrance to the yagasala would be marked by blowing of conches. Only after which the preparations for making a full-length statue of Vinayak would begin. On the 18th of April there would be kalasapooja, Sita pooja, bimba pooja followed by mounting the Vinayak idol on the stand.

This would be followed by the worship of married couples. Organisers claim that married couples in large numbers are thronging the temple site from within and outside the State to take part in the rituals. The religious ceremonies would include Mahasudarshan pooja meant for the well being of society.

On the last day 108 conches from 108 temples will signal the start of the poojas.

A committee with Doctor Vinayaka Chandra Deekshithar as chairman and Koyili Baskaran as president and C Padmanabhan as general convenor, has been constituted to conduct the ceremony. The total expenditure for the Mahayaga is estimated at Rs2.25 crores.
