Amritanandamayi urges restoration of rhythm in life

Kochi:The second day of Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s Brahmasthanam temple festival at Edapally here on Sunday witnessed thousands of devotees participating, in which Amritanandamayi led the Bhajan, meditation and a discourse. 

 
Amritanandamayi advised the devotees to ensure that the rhythm of life was not lost. “Everything in the universe has a rhythm of its own,” she said.

 
“The wind, the rain, the sea, the waves and even breath and heartbeat, all have a rhythm. Life too has a rhythm. Our thought and our action set the rhythm and tune of life. Once the rhythm of thought is lost, it reflects on the action, ultimately upsetting the rhythm of life itself,” she said. 

 
Amritanandamayi said that natural calamities like tsunami were nothing but the reflection of the loss of this rhythm. She also underlined the importance of prayer and spiritual practices in the present day world. 

 
Mata Amritanandamyi had reached the city on the occasion of the festival on Friday. Amritanandamayi Math general secretary Poornamritananda Puri said that special pujas with the active involvement and dedicated participation by people evoked tremendous response to the festival.  

 
The highlights of the festival on Sunday were Rahudosha Puja, Sanidosha Nirvana Puja, Mrityunjaya Puja and Udayasthamaya Puja. These pujas were mainly meant to ward off the evil influences on account of changes in planetary positions, Poornamritananda Puri said.  

 
On the second day of the festival, annual souvenir Amritavarshini was released by Justice PR Raman. He released the souvenir by handing over a copy to KV Prasad Kumar, director, Central Warehousing Corporation. Several dignitaries also took part in Sunday’s programmes at Brahmasthanam. 

 
On Saturday, the first day of the festival, the Amrita Health Card Scheme, instituted by the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) here, to give free healthcare facilities to the rural poor, was launched. 

 
Under the scheme, launched in a programme, attended by Mata Amritanandamayi, poor families around AIMS would be extended free medical aid up to Rs 10,000 per family per year.  

 
At the same function, selected widows were handed over pension by MLAs K Babu and KV Thomas under the Amritanidhi Pension Scheme, while sewing machine kits were distributed among selected women under the Amritananadamayi Math sponsored Self Employment Scheme for poor women.  

 
Math officials claimed that nearly 100,000 people thronged the Edappally Brahmasthanam on Saturday for the festival. The festival had started with Lalithasahasranama Koti Archana in which over 2,000 women participated.
