An Appeal from Panayur Shiva Temple
Temples   are Great Symbols of our sacred history and cultural heritage. Our Nation is still decorated with thousands of such beautiful symbols, though many more have been destroyed by the Muslim & Christian Invaders over centuries.Â
Having born in this Punya Bhoomi of Barath Varsh, it must be our ardent duty & responsibility to protect and maintain our Temple culture. While hundreds of Temples are in need of our kind attention for renovation, maintenance and conduction of even daily poojas, we do not mind in shelling out money for building new Temples.Â
In this context, it would be appropriate for all of us to remind ourselves the clarion call given by the Great Sage of Kanchi, Paramacharya, His Holiness Shri.Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal for making our financial and physical contributions to the maximum possible extent towards the noble cause of renovation of ancient Temples, which have a divine “Sthal Puran” behind them.Â
At this juncture, I am pleased to introduce to you all, two great souls, namely Shri. Ramamurthi and Shri.Lakshmi Narayanan, who have been doing yeomen service in the field of renovation of ancient temples. Shri.Ramamurthi is a retired naval officer and he has been in this field for the last two decades and he has been instrumental in the renovation and conduction of consecration of hundreds of temples in Chennai , Chingleput and Thiruvallur districts. He also focuses on fishermen hamlets and helps them in construction of temples for their Village Deities, and in the process, he also ensures the total rejection of Churches & Missionaries by the dwellers of those hamlets, thereby stopping conversions.Â
We (Shri.S.V.Badri, Shri.G.P.Srinivasan & myself) also used to join him whenever we find time and extend our help & cooperation.Â
Similarly Shri.Lakshmi Narayanan is also doing great service in this field and he is also an ardent Shiv Bhakt. He has involved himself – he takes pride in saying that he was chosen by Bhagwan Shiva for all these services – in the renovation and consecration of NanmangalamShivaTemple apart from beautifying its Rajagopuram.  Â
Now, he has taken up the renovation of Shri.Arulmigu Kokilaambaal sametha Thirukkaleshwarar Thirukkovil, Panayur, Thiruvannamalai District. Panayur is situated just 45 kms away from the temple town of Kanchipuram , which was the great capital of Pallava Kings. This ShivaTemple is 700 years old and is in a very dilapidated condition. Shri.Lakshmi Narayanan, with the guidance & blessings of Shri.Swami Sankarananda of Murugashram, Chennai , has single-handedly raised funds and 75% of the works have been completed. The date of consecration (Kumbabishekam) has been fixed on 23rd of April 2008 . For completing the balance 25% of work, he needs some 50 bags of cement, Rs,20,000/- worth of paints and another Rs.25,000 as Dakshina for the full team of Shivacharyas, who would be conducting the Yagnyas, Homams, consecration ceremonies and poojas.Â
Therefore, on behalf of Shri.Lakshmi Narayanan and his team of Sevaks, I appeal to you all, to extend a helping hand for achieving this noble cause.
