First bunch of crops offered to Guruvayoorappan
GURUVAYOOR: Seeking divine blessings for a bountiful harvest, bunches of the first crop of paddy were offered to the presiding deity of the Sree Krishna temple during the “illam nira” ritual here yesterday.
A few bunches of freshly-cut crop, brought to the temple by the traditional custodians of the shrine, were ceremoniously received by the sub-priests.
The bunches were then taken around the temple and kept at the ‘mandapam’ for sanctifying and then taken to the sanctum sanctorum wrapped in yellow silk cloth. The paddy stalks were later distributed to devotees.
There was heavy rush at the temple during the ceremony.
