234 Farmers committed suicide in UDF rule

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy informed the state assembly that till now 234 farmers had committed suicide due to debt during the UDF regime and of which 185 farmers belonged to Wayanad district.
The statistics states that Palakad comes second with 26 deaths, The exemption was Kottayam and Malapuram were no deaths were reported. 2004 records the maximum number of deaths.
According to the statistics of National Sample Survey Organisation, average debt of Kerala farmer family is 33907.
