11-year-old maid tortured; case against lawyer, wife
KOCHI: Police here have registered a case against a lawyer and his wife for allegedly torturing their 11-year-old maid. Radha native of Theni is the victim of this cruelty.
Police said the girl was staying as a domestic help at the residence of lawyer Imtiyaz, son of former judge, K A Mohammed Shafi, for the past three years at their house at Edathala in Aluva.
In her complaint, she said the couple had ill-treated and tortured her. She was being paid Rs 1000 a month. She was tortured with a hot iron rod once their daughter once their baby fell while playing .They also used to bang her head on the wall for silly mistakes
The girl alleged that she had been tortured by Khamarunissa, wife of Imtiyaz, by burning her with a hot iron rod on her chest. Unable to bear the frequent torture, she escaped and sought refuge in the neighbour’s house who informed police, sources said.
Imtiyaz and his wife have sought anticipatory bail before the High Court which has posted it for May 17.The Public Prosecutor assured the court that the two would not be arrested till May 17.
Cases have been registered against the two under various IPC sections including for voluntarily causing hurt, and sect 23, 24 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of children Act 2000), Sect 3 of Prevention of Child Labour Act.
Imtiyaz is a practising advocate in the High court.
