The efforts of Madani’s PDP to earn support for him from various Muslim organizations and rights outfits have yielded some success even as tension prevailed in Anvarssery, the Islamist leader’s operational headquarters in Kerala’s Kollam district. Hundreds of PDP workers and leaders were still camping at Anvarssery and the nearby town of Sasthamkotta to express solidarity with Madani.

PDP workers had begun to flow into Anvarssery from different parts of Kerala to resist any attempt to arrest Madani since June 7, the day he had returned from the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. At the same time, the protest fast at Anvarssery by PDP leaders entered the sixth day, Monday.

The Muslim Women’s Aikya Vedi took out a demonstration from Sasthamkotta to Anvarssery on Monday while the Muslim Samyuktha Vedi held a march to the State Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram. The working committee of the south Kerala unit of Jam’Iyat’ul Ulema held a meeting to demand an end to “the human rights violations on Madani”.
