Kerala Varma Raja – The man who bought first ‘Hindu Wave’ in Kerala politics

via Krishna published on July 6, 2010

Remembering Poonjaar Kerala Varma Raja

I still remember the great excitement and enthusiasm he brought in the minds of Hindus of
Trivandrum when he contested the 1984 parliament elections as a candidate of Hindu Munnani. We could really sense the ‘Hindu Tarangam’ for the first time in political history of Kerala. It actually spread to other districts as well. He got 1,10,500 votes i.e 1 in 5 votes polled came to Hindu Munnani, inspite of NSS was canvassing for Charles, the congress candidate. His campaigning was spearheaded by college students, most of whom didn’t have even voting rights. Inspite of his elegant personality and clean public life, he could come only in the third place. Charles, who was elected by the Hindus of Trivandrum got up in the parliament only once in the entire five year term. To oppose the introduction of a bill brought by one of Congress members to ban forced conversions! Jai secularism!

May his soul rest in peace and keep inspiring us from heaven.
