Kozhikode District Collector PB Salim banned the Freedom Parade the Popular Front was to hold on August 15 in Kuttyadi in the district and its rehearsals. The ban which would be effective till the Independence Day was imposed on the basis of Intelligence reports that the parade could lead to law and order problems.

The Additional District Magistrates in Ernakulam, Kottayam and Kannur had earlier banned the parade and its rehearsals in the respective districts. The Popular Front is said to have considerable influence in Kozhikode, Kannur and Ernakulam districts.
