Karnataka police reaches state to arrest Madhani, Request for Commando force

KOCHI: A five-member Karnataka Police team led by Circle Inspector Sitharamappa arrived in the state this morning to take into custody PDP leader Abdul Nazar Madhani.

The team held discussions with Manoj Abraham, City Police Commissioner, and requested commando force to accompany them for moving to Anwarasserry, Kollam where Madhani is staying. The team then went to Kollam accompanied by six commandos. More commandos are expected to join them from Thiruvananthapuram. They are expected to take Madhani into custody today itself.

The Karnataka High Court had rejected Madhani’s anticipatory bail plea on August 4. The court said bail cannot be granted considering the public interest and security of the country.

Meantime, the Bangalore First Class Additional Chief Metropolitan Court had extended the non bailable warrant of Madhani till August 17.The police had filed a charge sheet on June 6, 2010, after including his name as the 31st accused in the case.
