The management of the Newman College cut a sorry figure in public by its harsh order and subsequent statement that it was ready to reinstate him provided the Muslim community pardons him.

The question paper set by the professor for the degree level for Malayalam paper was of very poor quality. Its quality and content was far below the expected standard of a university level question paper. Malayalam language and literature was degraded to such a level that people started thinking that this classical language will die a natural death at the hands of professors like Joseph.

But the detractors or the college management were not worried about what happens to our language. People use much more decency even in fish markets now a days. The college management did not cite this as a reason for dismissing from the college. They were taken aback when jihadis who found in it an opportunity to strike at the very root of the Indian state itself and were up in arms around the church.
