Venu Nagavalli passes away

Actor- Director Venu Nagavalli (61) passed away on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Venu Nagavalli has been hospitalised for 10 days due to kidney-related ailments.

Venu, son of famous playwright and script writer Nagavalli R S Kurup had his education at the Thiruvananthapuram Model School and in the University College. He also had a brief stint in All India Radio before giving up the job for films.

Venu has acted in around 50 films and directed a dozen-odd movies.He entered films by playing the central role in KG George directed Ulkkadal in 1978.

He acted in some memorable movies of 1980s. The list includes Yavanika, Shalini ente koottukari, Chillu, Devadas, Oru Swakaryam and Meenamasathile Sooryan

This remorse looking romantic hero was said to be the Devadas of Malayalam cinema. Most of his characters were that of dejected lover which complimented his looks. He turned script writer in M.Shankaran Nair’s directed EE Ganam Marakkumo.

This multi talented personality shifted to the director’s seat in 1986 with Sukhamo Devi and the film was a huge hit. His hit films included Lal Salam, Aei Auto, Agnidevan, Sarvakalashala and Kizhakkunaram Pakshi. His latest directorial venture was Bharya Swantham Suhruthu which released last year.

But he was lucky to do a memorable character role in Sathyan Anthikkad directed Bhagyadevatha last year.He is survived by wife Meera and son Vivek Funeral will be held at Thycaud Shanthikavadam this evening.
