SI Shot dead by a ‘Green’ criminal in Kerala

via HK published on September 12, 2010

While Home minister Kodiyeri claims that Kerala’s law and order situation is far better when compared to other states, in a shocking incident, a police SI was shot dead by an accused.

The inspector who had gone to arrest an accused in a women’s harrasment case was shot dead by the accused at Chokkad Padayanthazhu. Mujeeb Rahman, after shooting the police SI Vijayakrishnan, fled the scene and escaped into the forest. Police have launched a manhunt for the accused.

The SI had gone to Mujeeb’s house with an arrest warrant when the accused shot him at point blank. Though the SI was rushed to the Nilambur Hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries. The Grade SI had gone alone to execute the warrant. He belonged to Kallikkavu station in Malappuram.

Mujeeb had been booked for various crimes for cheating women. Several cases filed by the affected women for cheating are pending against him. Based on these cases, the SI had gone to arrest Mujeeb.

The criminal has used an illegal country made revolver to shoot the SI as per the reports. There were also reports on a particular community amassing arms and ammunition and this incident needs to be investigated in that direction too.

This also shows that even a police SI is not safe in this state. Law and order is in the hands of politicians, and not in the hands of police. We have seen this in the case of Madani arrest drama. Until unless police is given free hands in dealing with criminals the situation is going to be still worse. Liquor, lottery and mafia are spoiling this gods own country.
