Charly Thomas gets death sentence in Soumya murder case

THRISSUR: The Fast Track Court judge K N Raveendra Babu today awarded death sentence for Charly Thomas, the main accused in the Soumya murder case. The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 100,000 to Charly.

The man from Tamil Nadu was found guilty of rape and murder of Soumya, a 23-year-old woman, who he pushed out of a running train in February this year. The case was that Charly Thomas had assaulted her in the ladies compartment of Kochi-Shornur passenger train on February 1 and pushed her out immediately after it left Vallathol Nagar railway station. She was on way to her home near Shornur after attending office at Ernakulam. Charly Thomas was arrested on February 3 from Palakaad. Soumya succumbed to her injuries at Thrissur Medical College Hospital on February 6.
