The BJP’s efforts to open account in the Kerala Assembly may turn fruitful in the April 13 election, says a survey. The BJP may win up to two seats in the 140-member Assembly, indicates the survey while it predicts a simple to comfortable win for the Congress-led Opposition UDF over the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF.

As per the survey, carried out by Kerala’s TV channel Asianet News and research group ‘C fore’ between February 28 and March 27 among 5,788 voters in 40 Assembly constituencies, the BJP’s vote-share may go up by four percent to nine percent in comparison with its share in the 2006 election. The BJP may win one seat in the northern Malabar region and one in southern Kerala, says the survey. As per the survey results released on Thursday, the Congress-led coalition is likely to win 80 to 90 seats in the 140-seat Assembly while the Left front’s strength may get reduced to between 50 and 60 seats. In the 2006 election, the LDF had bagged 97 seats. In the 2001 election, the UDF had come to power winning 100 seats. However, seven percent of the respondents are yet to decide whom to vote for.

The survey projections point to a huge disaster for the Left nationally. A survey by the same combine had on Wednesday predicted an end to the 35-year Left Front rule in West Bengal, where the Left tally might shrink to 80-90 seats in the 294-member House. In that event, the prominence of the Marxists would get reduced to tiny Tripura.

The Asianet-Cfore survey also sees the probability of the Kerala Left’s vote-share sliding by eight percent to 41 percent compared to the level in the 2006 election while the share of votes for the UDF could go up by three percent to 46 percent. The four percent gain in vote-share for the BJP has to come from the Left’s eight percent loss.
