Thiruvananthapuram: The CBI will now investigate the murder of Yuva Morcha leader Jayakrishnan Master. The move comes, following the decision taken by state government of Kerala. The declaration regarding the same will be issued soon.

However, the handing over of the case to CBI is being resented by police officials. There is a wide spread concern about certain senior police officers being in the list of wrong doers for hijacking the case. But the UDF government is of the view that the CBI wilI undertake the investigations, keeping in mind, the current political scenario.

The call for a reinvestigation in Jayakrishnan Master’s case came into light with the statements given by TK Rejeesh, the prime suspect of TP Chandrashekharan murder case.  The Bharatiya Janata Party has also categorically stated that the investigations should be handed over to the CBI. An appeal has also been given by Jayakrishnan Master’s mother Kausalya Devi, who met Chief Minister Oomen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchiyoor Radhakrishnan and requested for the same.

Rejeesh has stated before the investigating team that amongst those arrested, only one of them is the real culprit, in the Jayakrishnan Master murder case. Along with Acharuparambathu Pradeep, he was part of the group that barged into the classroom and hacked Jayakrishnan Master in a brutal murder. The party office had issued a list of the crime doers and police acted according to that list.

Jayakrishnan Master was brutally murdered on 1 December, 1999 while he was taking class. In connection with the same, police made relevant arrests as well. However, 2 of them were set free in absence of conclusive evidence. One among them, Sajeevan, committed suicide. The others were sentenced to death by Sessions Court. But this was terminated to life imprisonment by the appeal court. When the court reached Supreme Court, all of them, with the exception of Pradeep, were set free. However, before his term came to an end, Pradeep also walked out, a free man. His life imprisonment term was cut short, following the recommendations made by P Jayaraj, P Sasi, who happen to be part of the jail advisory board. Pradeep was set free during the tenure of the previous LDF government.
