via HK published on August 5, 2011

Guruvayur: As reported earlier Thrissur Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi is moving ahead with widespread protest plans against the Guruvayur Devaswom’s move to divert 85 Lakh Rupees to Guruvayur Township.(Muncipality)

According to information passed on to HK the decision to divert these funds have been taken by Guruvayur Devaswom Administration on 14.05.2011.The Muncipality has demanded 1.86 Crore Rupees from Guruvayur Devaswom for their services from 1995 to 2006. According to the minutes of the meeting held, Guruvayur Devaswom admits that this amount is exorbitant and concludes that Guruvayur Devaswom should give 85 lakh Rupees, ie, 5 lakh Rupees for each year from 1995 to 2012.Once they get the approval from the Government, Devaswom will divert these amounts. This current transaction is according to Kerala Muncipalities act 184,333 and 538(2).

Cleaning within the temple and temple premises are done by the Guruvayur Devaswom cleaning staff itself. The Muncipality has demanded this exorbitant amount for the maintenance of Roads and Canals in other areas of Guruvayur Muncipality and also for the processing of waste generated from and nearby Guruvayur Temple. For all these Muncipality is already getting immense amount of Tax from Devaswom and other Shops , Restaurants and Tourist homes in the area. This diversion of devotees funds have been infact started from 1972. From 1978 to 1984 Devaswom have given Two and a half lakh Rupees.

Cleaning and Waste processing is the duty of Muncipality – If the Muncipality cannot maintain the place from the huge revenue being collected from temple and devotee related business thriving in this temple town – Then let they hand it over to Hindu organisations. They will take care of this ‘Booloka Vaikundam’ and transfer it to as the cleanest city in the whole state.

It is high time the Hindus start realizing this one sided loot of Hindu temples by modern Gazhni’s and Viceroys. From one side our Finance Minister ear marks crores for the beautification of Bharananghanam Church at the same time Temple wealth is diverted for all sorts of activities.
