Cleaning at Sabarimala by Mata Amritanandamayi devotees

via GSK Menon published on November 11, 2011

Devotees of Mata Amritanandamayi recently undertook a massive cleaning programme from River Pampa to Sannidhanam, to clear the debris and waste lying uncleared for the last over a year (since previous pilgrimage season). The question that arises uppermost in one’s mind is why is the Devasom Board not doing timely cleaning ? Enormous funds are collected but why is the basic upkeep and maintenance of the temple and its surroundings not done ? What is the Devasom Commissioner and Sabarimala Special Officer doing ? Is it not their duty to ensure proper cleaning and maintenance ? This should be brought to the notice of the High Court of Kerala which is monitoring the activities there.

The VHP and the Ayyappa Seva Sanghom should start a campaign among the devotees to sign mass online petitions to the High Court to ensure that regular cleaning and hygenic upkeep is kept at all times. There is no dearth of funds, let there be a direction, from the High Court, to keep apart ,certain amount of money, only for daily cleaning and upkeep. This can be monitored by way of surprise checks and inspection by approved organisations.

I was also disappointed to see that no TV channel gave any coverage to the cleaning campaign by Mata Amritanandamayi’s devotees. Asianet is daily carrying a feature on Haj called “Punyan Thedi”, showing the facilities and conveniences arranged by the Indian government at Mecca. “
