Auction of Temple cows for slaughtering prevented by Hindu Aikyavedi

Hindu Aikya Vedi needs to be applauded for their prompt action against Devaswom Board officials, who had announced that the cows and calves of the famous SriKrishna Swamy Temple of Ambalapuzha would be auctioned to slaughter-houses on 24th of Feb. It was a shocking news of the arrogance and anti-Hindu nature of the Devaswom Board, which had the
audacity to make such an irreverent and inhuman announcement.

It is common knowledge that we Hindus revere ‘Gomatha’ as our mother.Bhagwan Sri Krishna is ‘Gopalan’, who lovingly looked after the cows and calves at Brindavan during his childhood days. It is for these reasons that several Mutts all over the country have set up ‘goshalas’ to look after the cows and calves.  Fresh cow dung and cow urine  from healthy cows fed on purely vegetarian menu are used for preparing medicines. The rest of the cow dung and cow urine are used as pesticides for plants, for  making compost and manure, for bio-gas etc. Thus we are making the best use of these bovines and also protecting them.

Devaswom Boards and HR&CE Depts of the Govt are supposed to be only Trustees of the temples under them. They should not misuse their authority by acting in ways which are prejudicial to Hindu sentiments.

In this particular case, the Devaswom Board over-stepped its limit and announced the auction of the poor ‘gomathas’ to the slaughter-houses.When cornered by our revered Hindu Aikya Vedi activists, Devaswom Board officials hoped to wriggle out of a difficult situation by
giving it in writing that they were withdrawing the circular. But since they cannot be trusted, Hindu Aikya Vedi is approaching the Courts, so that the cows and calves are properly cared for and protected.

This is the time for us to demand that such activities as ‘Gosamrakshanam'(cow protection) and Dharmarakshanam should be monitored by a committee of religious Hindus in every temple. Devaswom Board should not pass any orders without consultation with this
committee.
