Hindus in Neyyattinkara could change the political equations in Kerala

published on May 31, 2012

Today evening the election campaigning in Neyyattilkara comes to an end.  Though O.Rajagopal appears to be the front runner, UDF has deployed all its resources to ensure victory for their candidate. All ministers, ex-ministers, MLAs, Ex-MLAs, KPCC officials, Central ministers like AK Antony have been to the door steps of Neyyattilkara residents with all kinds of promises; offers and the misuse of government machinery have been very evident. There has not been any kind of interference from Election Commission who was very studious to limit the speakers on BJP candidate’s campaign vehicles.  When election campaign commenced, it has been Vellappally Natesan who off and on came out with remarks about the possibility of Hindu polarization and how conducive the atmosphere in the constituency where the Nadar community is in majority followed by Nairs and Ezhavas.  Even the NSS leadership showed some signs of `Sari Dooram’. But on 28 May, Vellappally in a statement requested the Ezhava community to cast their vote intelligently instead of sending out an appeal to vote for O.Rajagopal. He deliberately inflicted yet another blow with the prediction that O.Rajagopal may secure about 25,000 votes.  Such a remark was unwanted and uncalled for and definitely aimed at helping the UDF candidate because during the parliament election he secured 45,000 votes from Neyyattinkara and it could only go up in present scenario.  Like the NSS, SNDP also remain obliged to the UDF for the favors the leaders must be gaining from the ruling front and they are least bothered to see a Hindu getting elected from Neyyattinkara which could not bring any good to them. Or else, what prevented them from requesting the Hindus in the constituency to vote for the BJP candidate while they keep lamenting about the high handedness of Muslim League and Kerala Congress.

It is time for the Nairs, Ezhavas and all other Hindu orginsations in the state to put up all their resources to awaken the conscious of Hindus in Neyyattilkara constituency and make them cast their vote for O.Rajagopal who in spite of repeated failures have shown the guts to stand for the election on popular demand and  presented a very systematic campaign.  He lacks the government machinery, media support, colourful road shows and fake promises and assistance in cash and kind. If the Hindus in Neyyattinkara  elect the BJP candidate that would put an end to the UDF/LDF political gimmicks in the state and herald the advent of a useful political solution which could free the state from the shackles of religious minorities.  Let such a twister develop at Neyyattilkara and then move through all the districts upto Kasargod.
