Anti-airport protesters to form human chain today.

Thousands of protestors are expected to take part in the human chain on Friday in Aranmula as part of the agitation against the proposed Greenfield airport in Aranmula.

The human chain named as “Jalaraksha Srinkhala” (Water protection chain) has been organized the Joint Action Council (JAC) on World Water Day that is observed on March 22, every year. The protest will be led by poet and environmentalist Sugathakumari, and people from all walks of life and representatives of political parties will participate.

The human chain is part of an ongoing struggle to protect the paddy land, wetland, and natural streams  in Aranmula, that will be seriously affected by the project.

Kumanam Rajasekharan, Aranmula Heritage Village Protection Council chief patron; A. Padmakumar of the CPI(M); P. Prasad, CPI district secretary; Malethu Saraladevi, former MLA; K.K. Royson, former district panchayat president; K.R. Prathapachandra Varma, BJP State vice-president; George Varghese, RSP district secretary; Saleem P. Chacko, RYF State secretary; P. Induchoodan, Palliyoda Pallivilakku Samrakshana Samiti convner; and Pradeep Ayroor, Prakruti Samrakshana Vedi convner, would take part in the human chain formation from Iykara junction at Aranmula at 4 p.m.
