Fungus in Appam: Conspiracy to unsettle Sabarimala pilgrimage?
A few organizations have expressed doubts that this incident could be part of a conspiracy to destroy Sabarimala. They point out that it has become a norm during the last few years to unleash one controversy or other against Sabarimala, especially during the pilgrimage season. Anti- Mullaperiyar protests targeting Tamil devotees, allegations over preparation of Aravana during last year and this year’s “Appam controversy,†all could be part of a larger conspiracy, they add.
It is also pointed out that while the report submitted by Konni based analytic lab, says that the appam has become non-edible , due to fungus, the newspaper reports flashed over media, claimed that fungus infected appams have become poisonous and may affect liver and digestive system of those who have eaten it.†This was aimed at creating panic among devotees and bring down the sales of prasadam at Sannidhanam,†one pointed out.
Interestingly, Devaswom Board President M.P Govindan Nair, speaking to a private news channel, also said that there is a conspiracy to destroy Sabarimala pilgrimage. He said that the recent issue regarding infected appams could be part of such a move. He said that nothing can be established on the basis of a lab report. “We will do further investigations, “he said.
