‘Give away Excess Land to Landless’: Kummanam

published on June 1, 2014
PATHANAMTHITTA: Patron of the Coordination Committee against Aranmula Airport Project Kummanam Rajasekharan has urged the state government to take urgent measures to distribute the land under the custody of the KGS Group for the airport project, which was declared by the Land Revenue Board as excess land under the Land Ceiling Act, to landless families of Aranmula.

Talking to ‘Express’, Rajasekharan said the state government should initiate measures to give away the  232-odd acres of land declared as excess land meant for the airport project to the landless, following the National Green Tribunal verdict cancelling the environment clearance to the project.

The state government is yet to initiate measures on the Kerala High Court order on the excess land declared by the Land Revenue Board at Aranmula, which attracts contempt of court.

Though the time frame given by the High Court on the order was six months, the government is yet to take measures to distribute the excess land to the landless families as per the prevailing law, he said.

Contempt Plea

He said the coordination committee would file a contempt petition in the High Court in this regard.

Chief patron of the coordination committee Sugathakumari said that a high-level meeting of the committee would be held at her residence in Thiruvananthapuram at 11 am on Friday.

The meeting will decide on the follow-up action programme consequent to the National Green Tribunal verdict.

The agenda of the meeting will include, among others, relaunch of paddy cultivation in Aranmula paddy fields and rejuvenation of the reclaimed Kozhithode.
