Jamat-E-Islami: The Group Proscribed by Home Ministry, Kerala Sahitya Academy’s New Found Ally.

The recently conducted Malayalam- Arabic Cultural Festival, organized by Kerala Sahitya Academy is said to have taken place with the blessings of Jamat-E-Islami. However, with the function taking a controversial turn, the state Cultural Department and Sahitya Academy are making a mad scramble to hush up matters. 

The Jamat-E-Islami has been bracketed by government agencies as an organization that spreads anti-national ideals. An affidavit filed in Kerala High Court states that the organization’s activities are under the scanner of the state government. However, the recent cooperation extended by state Cultural Department and Sahitya Academy have stirred a hornet’s nest. Things have indeed taken a sour turn with the Academy making an initiative in distributing JEI publications like Madhyamam and Prabodhanam, during the course of registration. In its writeup, there is a mention of ‘Philistine’, instead of Palestine, which happens to be something resorted to only by JEI publications.
