St Thomas has not come to Kerala: MGS Narayanan.

published on August 19, 2014
St Thomas has not come to Kerala and the episode of him having come to Kerala is historically wrong, said eminent historian MGS Narayanan. Kerala does not have much of a link with Chera rulers and Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu was their territory, he added.

MGS Narayanan was addressing the audience at a seminar on history jointly organized by NRI Malayali Federation, Thiruvithankoor Malayali Federation and Baselious College, on the topic ‘Kerala History at a Glance.’

“It was the British who imposed themselves as guardians of our history. They were the ones who discovered the Taj Mahal, which was surrounded by dense jungles. Those days, dacoits had used the Taj as a store house to keep their booty. It was after driving them out that the Taj was converted into a monument,” explained, adding that the real history of Kerala is yet to be written.

“Regarding Kerala history, we have documental evidence of just a handful of people. BUt, even universities show no zeal in encouraging any further research on the matter. A credible phase of Kerala history has come to light, only following Portuguese invasion,” he pointed out.
