Kerala School celebrates Pak Independence Day.

Kollam Tangal Kunju Musaliyar School has managed to hog limelight the second day in a row, with their celebrations of Pakistan’s Independence Day stirring a hornet’s nest. The Anti-national drama was unfurled in the presence of Kollam Mayor, under the aegis of the local unit of SDPI and school management. A protest march was held in front of the school by Hindu Aikya Vedi and Yuva Morcha.

The school caught the attention of the entire state on Thursday, with Jihadi group SDPI bringing to a halt, the school’s practice session on Vande Mataram, calling it ‘unIslamic’.

Sources have stated that the move was called for by Salahuddhin, a candidate for Lok Sabha elections. There are also reports of the school having discarded the move called for by Salahuddhin, but succumbing to it later when Salahuddhin arrived with a couple of Islamic fundamentalists, who began threatening the school management. It was on Wednesday that the school management announced its decision of not proceeding with the dance on Vande Mataram and placing a ban on the same.

Even though the matter was hushed up, it managed to slip out via a few students. This led to the management decide on going ahead with Independence Day celebrations on a date before the original functions- August 14. This was done under the guise of ‘preponing’ the celebrations, something that is hitherto, unheard of. Sources have indicated that celebratory programmes began at 8.00 am.

Meanwhile, the school management has also been charged with meting out inhuman treatment to children, who were made to stand for long hours in the scorching heat during assembly sessions. The Hindu Aikya Vedi, who happened to witness the scenario, alerted Child’s Welfare Committee.
