Questioning the Denial of Lunch in Schools during Ramzan in Kerala: AEO Harassed and Transferred

published on August 31, 2014
Vijayalakshmi, the AEO who sought that lunch in government schools do not get hampered during the season of Ramzan, has been transferred. Vijayalakshmi served as AEO of Kozhikode district.

According to Vijayalakshmi, she had sought “non-disruption of lunch in the UP schools at Pannadammal and Orkotteri, during Ramzan.”

“I questioned the same. I had also issued directives to ensure that schools function according to the regular academic calendar. This is the reason for such retaliation, which I feel is in retribution,” alleged Vijayalakshmi.

Vijayalakshmi also contended that she was given a transfer, even without applying for one, with the authorities stating that the transfer was according to her request. “This, according to them, is the reason for appointing me as Head Mistress of Azhchavattom School. There were also frequent threats of transfer from a teacher who was a Muslim League leader,” said Vijayalakshmi.

There are allegations against Education Minister Abdu Rabb for having laid a red carpet for Islamic fanaticism in the education department, especially at a time when ban on alcohol in the state and Titanium scam have been hitting headlines.
