Container Containing Pakistan Cement Intercepted: Role of Congress MLA George being Investigated
The NIA and Intelligence Wing are investigating the alleged role of Parassala MLA AT George into the issue of the container of Pakistan cement spotted in Vellarada. The container belonging to PKK was seized on 1 November at 5.00 pm in the Vellarada-Karakkonam route, but was allegedly let go following instructions issued by AT George to DySP of Neyyatinkara. George is also said to have called off all investigations in the matter.
Sources revealed that police intercepted the container belonging to PKK, after having received information that it contained cement manufactured in Pakistan. It was also informed that the container, which was “loaded at Tuticorin wharf contained a total of 560 sacks of cement, out of which 360 packs were dispatched at Abraham hollow bricks kiln at Kuttaykode. The lorry was intercepted when they were on their way to deliver the remaining 200 packets at Methil hollow bricks kiln. The driver of the container tried to dodge, but was soon nabbed by police personnel.â€
A stringent stand was said to have been adopted by SI of Vellarada, following which a sales tax official arrived from Nedumangad and levied a fine of Rs 42,000. However, following intervention from George, the container was released the very next day. Sources state that the MLA has not granted permission to check what lies inside the container. He is also said to have called off all ongoing investigations in the matter.
The office of PKK functions in Ottamaram, Kaliyikavilla. Probe is being initiated into the alleged link between AT George and the agency.
There have been earlier instances, where counterfeit notes originating from Pakistan have been seized from this region, with all those who have been nabbed being Bangladeshis. Intelligence sources have taken grave note of the arrival of Pakistan cement.
Over 200 hollow bricks kilns function in the area around Kerala- Tamil Nadu border. In these, over 80% of the employees are those who have arrived from Bengal region. The glaring truth is that a majority of them are from Bangladesh. However, police have no details or evidence to prove their place of origin.
