Distorters of Lord Ayyappa’s History now on a Tirade against Modi Government’s Demonetization

Alappuzha: The Christian church- Arthungal St Andrews Basilica- has come out openly in support of the malicious propaganda which is being promulgated against the Centre. And against this is a section of believers who have come out against the clergy for politicizing the issue of demonetization. The Arthungal church has earned its share of notoriety by making clear, well defined plans of spinning fabricated tales and distorting the history  of Lord Ayyappa, for the sole purpose of whisking Sabarimala bound pilgrims to the church.

Father Christopher M Arthasseril, the vicar of Arthungal Basilica is the prime initiator of the malicious campaign, which began in the form of a vicious campaign headed by Kerala’s cooperative sector, South Cooperative Bank, Cherthallai. The vicar has come under severe criticism for supporting the malicious propaganda being indulged in by Congress and the Left parties. Politicizing the meaningless discussions being initiated by both Left and Right political fronts of Kerala, the vicar is ensuring that the message is being spread far and wide. According to sources, his open support for “safeguarding the rights of Kerala’s cooperative sector” evidently shows how “vested interests of the church deposited in cooperative societies stand at stake.”

It is being speculated that the misinformation being indulged in is resulting in irreparable damage to the societal fabric.  However, it is also a well known fact that Arthungal church has always hogged the limelight for indulging in such notorious activities aimed at whicking away Sabarimala bound pilgrims to the Abrahamic shrine. They have painstakingly woven fibs about “the history of Lord Ayyappa being as young as three hundred to four hundred years” when in reality, the deity has been venerated for over several centuries.

According to the church’s flight of imagination, “it was Jacomo Fenicio, known amongst the people as ‘Veluthachan’   (White Father), the foreign missionary who served as vicar of the church way back in 1584, who became chiefly instrumental in initiating his friend Ayyappan at the Kalari of Cheerappan Chira” and “Ayyappan and the foreign missionary forged an eternal bond of friendship and through Ayyappan, members of Pandalam royal family shared a friendly rapport with the Christian missionary.”

Later when St Seabastian was consecrated in the Basilica, Christian pilgrims began associating him with Jacomo Fenicio. Added to this was the cleverly fabricated dream visitation that Sabarimala bound pilgrims must pay obeisance to the Abrahamic shrine. However, authentic historic records do not, in any way point to any such connection even remotely. “Neither does any literary document conform to anything similar, leave alone Arthungal Church, for that matter any church,” said a localite.
