Converted Christians should not use the Surname of Nadars: AINA

published on December 3, 2014

All India Nadar Association has sought a ban on the retaining of the surname Nadar by members of the same community who have converted to Christianity. The petition has been given in wake of various Court directives including one from Supreme Court, stating that a person who has converted to another religion from Hinduism stands to lose his surname.

The community has also sought banning of the mentioning of surnames like ‘Christian Nadar’, SIUC Nadar, in government records, along with prohibition on the polarizing government directive of taking into consideration the Bishop’s endorsement in the granting of caste certificate for SIUC Nadars for Revenue officials.

Sources state that the Nadar community plans to go ahead with seeking of rights due to them in this regards.
