Ponnani (Malappuram): Yet another blatant attempt to discriminate students in the name of religion and language has been exposed and thwarted.

The controversial stand was taken by authorities of Maranchery Government Higher Secondary School, Malappuram regarding conferring of gold medal only to students of Arabic.

School authorities had decided to award gold medals to those candidates, whose first language is Arabic, who have secured an A+ in all subjects in their SSLC and Plus Two. However with the intervention of Yuva Morcha, school authorities have temporarily withdrawn their plan.

The decision, taken at a public felicitation meet on Monday, had humiliatingly announced  mere trophies for those students whose first language is not Arabic.  The programme, during which the decision was taken, was inaugurated by Assembly Speaker P Sree Ramakrishnan.

The Yuva Morcha has made it specifically clear that they are not antagonistic towards Arabic. “Those concerned should explain why Arabic is being given such privilege over national language Hindi and our mother tongue Malayalam,” said Yuva Morcha leaders.
