‘Sambhara Samvadam’ (debate over a glass of sambharam) launched on last Sunday. The initiative has been conceived by a group of Bangalore-based Karyakartas under the banned of ‘I Support Kummanam’. The programme was launched in Aranmula by Nalin Kumar Kateel,BJP Parliamentarian from Dakshin Kannada in Karnataka.

The entire initiative has a catchy rhyming slogan, “Venal choodinu sambharam, sadbharanathinu samvadam” (sambharam for the summer heat, debate for good governance). Inaugurating the event Kateel stressed on the need for new political dimensions in Kerala, which has hitherto been ravaged by corrupt, murderous politics of UDF and LDF. A version of politics that will incorporate cultural values and heritage must arise in Kerala, said Karnataka Legislative Councillor and leader of Opposition, Captain Ganesh Karnik, while delivering the key note address of the inaugural session in Pandhalam.

“Congress which has been showing aversion towards any kind of development, has always fueled corruption. On the other side, Marxists have been engaged in murderous politics. Kerala must now give a serious thought whether they want either of these or the developmental mantras of BJP,” he said.

“We are scheduling more events and waiting for confirmation from the guests,” said one of the organisers of the project. “Pamphlets will be issued to the various centres where the event will be held, explaining how the sambharam is to be prepared,” he added.

“The choice of Aranmula for the launch was deliberate. Located in Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala, the place recently witnessed a successful land struggle under Kerala BJP president Kummanan Rajasekharan’s leadership against a greenfield airport project,” said organiser.

Sambharam, a spicy version of buttermilk, is flavoured with ginger, shallots, curry leaves, chillies and a dash of salt, has been an eternal favourite with the Malayalis to beat the summer heat. The BJP’s initiative will involve speeches, along with interaction with public. The meetings have been planned across the state.
