Replace Archaic laws of rotting Devaswom Act – Kummanam

Thiruvananthapuram: State general secretary of Hindu Aikya Vedi Kummanam Rajashekharan has categorically affirmed that Hindus will hold the administrative reins of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Lashing out at the state government, he said that they need not harbor dreams of taking over the temple.

Reminding the government of its duties, Kummanam said that an ideal secular government must cater to the welfare of its citizens and not dream of taking over the administrative reins of the temple. In the recently concluded Hindu Dharma Parishad at Thiruvananthapuram, he said that no temple administered by Hindus has ever faced closure so far.

Stating that Hindus do not benefit from the proceedings earned from temples, Kummanam said, “In the name of squabbles, as many as 67 churches have faced closure. Lets take the instance of Ochira Parabrahma Kshetram. The temple is being managed by people selected from 58 different ‘kara’s. It is from the offerings made to the temple that a super-specialty hospital and school are being funded. There happens to be 3800 kg of gold and an amount of 2300 crore rupees in the name of Guruvayur temple, in the bank. However, the Hindu hardy benefits from this. Renovations or maintainence does not take place in most of the temples administered by Devaswom Board. It is the devotees who gather and ensure the upkeep and safeguard of the temple. No doubt, there are differences between Hindus, but that does not mean there is animosity. There is a unifying factor named Hindutva, which has its variegated charms and which serves as a binding thread, ensuring love and cooperation all around.”

Pointing to the archaic laws of the Devaswom Board, Kummanam referred to the Devaswom Act as “rotting”. “In Kerala alone, as many as 1200 temples are either being destroyed or looted. It is the Devaswom Board and state government that should first raise its voice against the injustice. But they are all strangely muted. Under such circumstances, how do we entrust the safe keep of Sree Padmanabhasamy Temple into their hands? Hindu Sanyasis and spiritual gurus are ridiculed as ‘human deities’. But then why is it that Father Chavara and Sister Alphonsa are revered as saints? Ashrams are destroyed and the seers ho dwell in them are slandered as crooks. But when a solitary church was vandalized in Delhi by bandits, a malicious propaganda about minorities being targeted was unleashed,” said Kummanam.

Referring to the slackened and partial attitude donned by the state government machinery against the Hindu cause, Kummanam made a scathing attack to the government’s negligence in the Marad case. “The entire state stood witness to the government’s disregard when poverty stricken Hindu fishermen were mercilessly slaughtered in Poonthura and Marad. Thanks to the peace loving nature of Hindus, there was no backlash. No one raised a voice for Hindu cause in the state legislative assembly when Nilakkal temple was ransacked and ravaged and Hindu seers hounded and attacked. It was keeping this deplorable situation in mind that Swami Chinmayanandan spoke of the need to consolidate Hindu vote bank. It is for the benefit and upliftment of those impoverished Hindus that Swami Satyananda Saraswati spoke of the need of a Hindu bank. If heed is paid to the directives issued by the seers, Hindus can always live a life of dignity- and we definitely are capable of the same,” he stated.
