Directive to Halt Illegal Construction Work of Mosque in Government Land

published on August 19, 2015

Parappanangadi (Malappuram): The Parappanangadi Gram Panchayat has issued a stop memo against illegal construction of a mosque on the land belonging to Palathingal Irrigation Department. Construction work continues in spite of the memo issued, following which Panchayat authorities had to seek police help to bring work to a halt. The Islamic organizations who had undertaken construction of the illegal structure had also encroached into four metres of land from the bank of Kadalundi River as well.

The matter was first reported by Janmabhumi, which brought the issue to the citizen’s notice. Infuriated, people and various organizations undertook the filing of a petition against the structure.

“Construction of the illegal structure was almost nearing completion. Those in charge of the structure had ample political backing, including support from ministerial class. Until recently, all government authorities had turned a blind eye towards the matter. And so they tried resolving the issue that way. However, the panchayat authorities had to give in to public remonstrations,” said locals.
