Thrissur: With just a handful of days remaining for curtains to fall on the term of the current administrative team of Guruvayur Devaswom Board, officials are making a mad rush in allegedly executing illegal appointments and on renewing unwarranted contracts. The board headed by TV Chandramohan as chairperson steps down on 14 November.

Sources have reported that a hurried meeting was called for recently to renew a contract dealing in kumkumapoovu, with the contract being given to a Kashmir based group for 1,80,000- this after having ruled out transaction with the central government authorized group NAFED that had sought the same for 90,000.

Likewise, many tenders have been invited last week, which is said to be a pathway for swindling lakhs of rupees. The administrative body had plans of appointing as many as 120 persons for various posts, breaching existing rules and regulations. However, an expose by Janmabhumi resulted in the intervention of Election Commission in the same, leading to a temporary halt in matters. Matters are now being revived with least regard for existing Devaswom Board laws.
