Veliyam silent about RSS !
Well, the Lok Sabha by-election at Thiruvananthapuram (irrespective of the result) has succeeded in highlighting the respect and fear both the UDF and LDF has for the Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh. The readers may ask why and how? The attack on the Bishop’s House at Neyyattinkara is the best example and proof for my contention. Veliyam Bhargavan, the Kerala CPI leader was conspicuous by his silence on RSS at least this time around. Poor Bhargavan used to issue statements on a daily basis condemning the Sangh for any attack on the church buildings, missionaries, nuns and other minority institutions. Remember the strength of the venom he spat on the “Hindu fundamentalists†when the Pattoor Church at the state capital was ransacked by someone? Bhargavan blamed the Sangh for that incident. One of the news channels telecast his press conference live in which Bhargavan blasted RSS and all Hindus for the intolerance. But when the police nabbed the original culprit, a ‘devote’ Christian, Bhargavan went underground and will not speak for months altogether.
This is not the case of Bhargavan alone. All our ‘secular leaders’ like Pinarayi Vijayan, VS Achuthanandan, KM Mani, Panakkadu Thangal used to go to town with the RSS bogey whenever there was an incident like this. But this time around, the strange thing is that none of them used the R word while condemning the attack on the Bishops House. But all the commanders of the Secular Brigade were there at Neyyattinkara to ‘express solidarity’ (read appease) with the missionaries! The Congress leaders blamed the Communists while the Marxists put all the blame on Ramesh Chennithala and the liquor lobby! The bishop and his heard of sheep stand flabbergasted… What happened to RSS? The UDF or the LDF no more utter the words Pattoor Church. So is it that secularists are having a second thought about attacking the Sangh for the alleged atrocities on the minorities? We have to wait…
