The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized the central and state governments of taking a “casual attitude” in handling the abduction and killing of the BRO driver, Maniappan Raman Kutty.

The BJP national secretary in charge of Kerala, Mr L Ganesan, describing the killing as “outrageous and barbaric” said that the “killing could have been avoided had the Centre acted soon after the abduction.

Ironically, the Indian embassy in Kabul was seem to be waiting for the Taliban to call them for negotiations after Kutty was taken hostage. In fact, the Embassy should have immediately swung in to action to build up a communication channel with the abductors so as to get more time. Instead, shamefully, some diplomat was quoted as as saying that Taliban did not contact the mission. On expiry of the deadline, the Muslim terrorists slaughtered the poor Hindu driver from Kerala.

Meanwhile, the New Indian Express report from New Delhi quoting External Affairs Ministry sources said “little effort was made to engage a proper dialogue with the abductors. There was clearly no political will to pursue the case unlike what had happened with the detainees in Iraq”.

It also went to say that Minister of State for External Affairs and IUML leader Mr E Ahmed, who had become a hero of the Iraq rescue, “with his mobiles switched off, was tied up with official dinner for visiting dignitaries. Sadly, the Afghan abduction was not on the menu”.

The Body of Kutty has been brought to New Delhi and it is expected to arrive in his village tomorrow for cremation at the premises of his house. To mark respect to the slain BRO soldier, the people in the Karthikapally Taluk had called for a hartal today.
