Arrested man;an IUML office bearer

Abdul Kareem who was arrested on gelatin recovery case, learnt to be an office-bearer of the Areekode panchayat committee of the IUML.He was arrested from his residence in Malappuram district on Saturday. Kareem, who had purchased the particular product batch of gelignite from a dealer in Kodungallur,  is yet to reveal the identity of the persons to whom the sticks were sold.

The police have filed a petition before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (IV), which had remanded Kareem to the judicial custody on Saturday, to get him released in police custody for further interrogation.

Kareem, the police said, tampered with his records soon after 47 gelignite sticks were recovered from the cloakroom. They were part of the 800 sticks he had purchased. Kareem is remanded under section 4 and 5 of the Explosive Act.
