Formation of third front a dream: Venkaiah

via Mahadev published on April 12, 2006

The BJP National Vice President, Mr Venkaiah Naidu said today here that the formation of a third front was only a dream.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme, he said, “You cannot have a government without the BJP or Congress, the two major forces in politics”., he said.

According to him United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre would fall apart after the assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and the results would have a varying impact on the political scenario.
He said that the results would create uncertainty for the UPA government in the days to come, he said.

On the performance of the UPA government, he pointed out that there were complaints from many quarters. The 40 MPs of Samajwadi Party were at loggerheads with the government while the Bahujan Samajwadi Party was  keeping a distance. The Telungana Rashtriya Sabha (TRS), he said, had declared that their honeymoon with the Congress was over and the MDMK had already launched a bitter campaign against the DMK, he said.

He said that differences on each issue in the Common Minimum Programme were adversely affecting the functioning of the government. All these show that “all is not well in UPA government and anything can happen after the elections. The differences between UPA and Left parties may aggravate,” he said.

The Left and Congress, who are partners of power by working together at the
Centre, are trying to fool the voters of Kerala by describing each other as communal and corrupt, he said, adding “Except for the BJP keeping a distance, both have policy differences”.

Expressing optimism, Naidu said,  the BJP would open its account and enter the assembly in Kerala as “the party will get more issue based votes than communal ones,” he said.
