State BJP president PS Sreedharan Pillai has refused to take seriously the exit polls, which projected the BJP as a big loser in the Assembly election.

He said there was conspiracy against the BJP behind the efforts to predict poor performance by the party in the State. On reports that RSS men had kept away from voting in Palakkad constituency where senior BJP leader and former Union Minister O Rajagopal is party candidate, Pillai said that if anyone could prove the allegation, he would quit public life.

“A channel reported that a section of BJP-RSS workers kept away from voting. This is totally baseless, and unethical on the part of that channel. I challenge it to prove the (correctness of the) report,” he said.

Addressing newspersons here on Sunday, he alleged that the Government had sabotaged the development of Sabarimala pilgrim centre and the decision of the Idukki district collector to revoke the order issued to allot the land at Kampakala was clear hint that some vested interests were behind this. The BJP called for a judicial probe into the issue.

He said that the Sabarimala pilgrim centre, which devotees from across the country visited, lacked even the basic amenities. “The plight of the centre has gone from bad to worse. For many years, all were waiting for the Central clearance required under the Forests law. But now when every hurdle has been crossed, the ditrict collector has revoked the order citing technical reasons. Mafia groups with ties with the ruling front are behind this act,” he said. Pillai said that his party’s units in Pathanmthitta district would hold strike against this.

Commenting on the issue of abducted Indian engineer Suryanarayana, who was murdered in Afghanistan by the Taliban, he said that it showed the inefficiency of the UPA Government. “Then it was Maniappan, who was the victim of terror, and now it is Suryanarayana.

The parties who ought to fight against such terrorist outfits are actually keeping good relation with such outfits in the State, like in the case of the NDF,” remarked Pillai.

He added that the BJP would observe Monday as protest day against the killing of Suryanarayana.
