Great loss to the country:O.Rajagopal

published on May 3, 2006

Former Union minister of state for Railways O Rajagopal said that Mahajan’s death was a great loss to the country as he was one of the most promising young leaders of the BJP. Mahajan had played an instrumental role in bringing the BJP to power at the Centre, Rajagopal said. Without diluting the basic principles of the party, he had tried to bring in the merits of new technology into the party, the former minister said. Rajagopal said that Mahajan’s sharp intellect and analytical capabilities had helped the BJP to strengthen the party’s base across the country.

Expressing grief personally and for the party, BJP State president PS Sreedharan Pillai said that the personality of Mahajan was liked by all, even his enemies. He was regarded not only as a politician, but as a nation-builder, Pillai said. The State BJP chief also said that Mahajan was a great orator and a farsighted person, who had been here in the State during the 1987 elections.

Senior BJP leader CK Padmanabhan said that Mahajan was an asset to the party and that he was elevated to the national leadership in a short span of time. His death had caused a perpetual loss to the party and to the public. Mahajan had played a crucial role in renovating the BJP to the current status and equipped the party to face new challenges.

Padmanabhan also said that Mahajan’s demise became all the more painful since it occurred at a time when the party and the nation were in need of a matured leader like him.
