Thrissur: A two-day seminar on Renaiassance, National Liberation and Literature has been planned in connection with the 80th birth anniversary of poet Akitham Achuthan Namboodiri on May 20 at Edappal near here. The seminar, being organised in collaboration with the Kendriya Sahitya Akademy, would be attended by leading literary figures from within and outside Kerala, PP Biju, general convenor of the organising committee, told reporters here.

Born at Kumaranalloor in Palakkad district on March 18, 1926, Akittham is a trail-blazer of modern trends in Malayalam poetry. A widely appreciated and oft-quoted poet, Akitham had to his credit 46 works, including collections of poetry, drama, translations, short story and essays. A commemoration volume of the poet, Akkithanthinte Lokam (a collection of articles on Akittham) would be released by poet Madhavan Ayyppath on the occasion.
