Law on pvt colleges vague, says BJP

| Terming the law as unrealistic and vague, the BJP blamed the ruling front and the Opposition for a joint game to woo certain communities. | ||
| Speaking to newspersons here on Friday, BJP spokesperson BK Shekar said that the unanimously passed Bill had put lakhs of students in a state of uncertainty. “Nothing has been achieved with the law. Like the previous UDF Government, the LDF Government has also forgotten to include stringent provisions in the Bill to control the professional college managements,” he said. | ||
| He said that the two fronts in the Assembly had rushed the Bill and the subject committee was not given enough time. “The same opposition, which had said they doubted the integrity of the Bill, finally supported it. When the Bill was being discussed inside the Assembly, meetings with the managements were going on outside. The Government has got itself into a ‘pitiful’ situation,” he said. | ||
| Shekar said that the Central Government had already announced that a new law will be enacted on professional colleges, and in this situation the law passed by the State Assembly would not stand. | ||
| “The Human Resource Development Minister has said that the Central Government will bring in a new legislation regarding this within three months. This means the new law just as three-month lifespan and all the hue and cry was just created to appease certain communities,” he said. | ||
| He said that with the new law the benefits being enjoyed by the students would also come to an end. “The SC/ST students had four percent reservation and this has come down to one per cent. The merit list has been limited to just 18 per cent. Regarding the granting of minority status, what is specified in the Bill cannot be understand by anyone,” said Shekar. The law was full of confusion, he said. | ||
