Sanskrit Varsity VC gets threat letter, Police still clueless

ALUVA: Police are still clueless about those responsible for sending a threatening letter to the Kalady Sri Sankara University Vice-Chancellor, K S Radhakrishnan, but several suspects, including activists of the banned SIMI, are being questioned.

Investigations are still going on, several persons have been questioned, but there has been no headway in the case so far, police here told PTI.

Police are also looking into several possibilities, including a possible SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) connection, into the letter episode. The Vice-Chancellor was not in good terms with some people in the university and this angle was also being looked into, they said.

The Vice-Chancellor had received an undated letter in Malayalam threatning that one of his daughters would have to “suffer some punishment,” if he did not publicly apologise to S P Shapna, a research scholar in the university who had made allegations of sexual harassment against him.

A seven-member syndicate committee went into the allegations and found they were baseless, university sources said. It was immediately thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor received the threatening letter.

Police said they have collected the letter and envelope from the Vice-Chancellor and it will be sent for forensic analysis soon.
