Temple capturing is unconstitutional-Kummanam

via HK published on November 10, 2006

Thiruvananthapuram: The present Government move to capture Temples in the state is against the secularism and freedom of practicing once own religion guaranteed by the constitution, told VHP State organising secretary, Shri  Kummanam Rajasekharan  in a Press Release.

When there is autonomy in the administration of Churches and Mosques in the state to Christians and Muslims, the Government looting of the Temple’s property and Devotees money is highly deplorable. The pure religious discrimination meted against Hindus is unacceptable.

Both Kuttikrishna Menon Commission in 1965 and K.P.Sankaran Nair Commission in 1983 who studied the Temple administration is came to the conclusion that the Temple Administration should be devoid of any Political or Governmental interference and the Temple Boards should be constituted only by the representatives of Devotees. Kerala High court also in various occasions echoed the same views. But now the Communists in the state is acting against this commission reports and High court warnings.

The present move to take over Temples is under the disguise of alleged corruptions in the Deveswom boards. There are strict laws against corruption in the present rules and regulations of Deveswom board itself, instead of using this effectively the move to revamp it is highly ridiculous.

Another reason pointed by the Government to titivate is for the inclusion of schedule caste and female members in the board. When there is no law preventing the inclusion of both in present system itself why to refurbish the whole system? questioned Kummanam.

Before taking unanimous decisions concerning the matters of Hindu temples and sevotees, the Government should discuss it with Hindu Organizations in the State, told Kummanam.
