‘Sudhakaran possessed by ghost of Lord Monroe’

Thiruvananthapuram: Vellapally Nateshan criticised Cooperation and Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran for his outbursts against IAS officers and officials of temple administration bodies. Saying that Sudhakaran had been possessed by the ghost of Lord Monroe, Natesan alleged that the Minister was attacking all using vile language against officials ranging from the temple staff to the district collectors. He said it was Monroe who had reined in Devaswoms in Kerala during the British rule. Natesan asked responsible people, including Ministers, to mind their language. Natesan had criticised Sudhakaran on Monday also.

Sudhakaran’s recent outbursts against Cochin Devaswom Board president MA Krishnanunni had caused considerable resentment among Devaswom employees and certain community organisations. Sudhakaran had at a programme in Thrissur last week described Krishnanunni with some harsh terms, which caused immediate protests. The Minister had also been criticising the Travancore Devaswom Board in the context of allegation of corruption against the board.

Turning his ire against religious minorities, the Yogam general secretary said that the benefits of the Liberation Struggle of 1957 were enjoyed by “those behind it”. He said the religious minorities in the State possessed “money and muscle power”. It was for making statements to this effect that (Defence Minister) AK Antony was “crucified”, he said. Natesan said that nobody could rule the State without the support of communities. He also warned politicians against viewing temples as “pastures” to earn their livelihood.

Commenting on the first six months of the LDF Government headed by VS Achuthanandan, Natesan said that the rule had not fulfilled the expectations of the people. “Achuthanadan has the thorn of Chief Ministership on his back,” he said.
