Nine Gas pistols seized from a consignment from Dubai
KOCHI: Customs officials have seized nine gas pistols from a furniture consignment which arrived at Kochi port from Dubai. Searches are still going on, Customs Commissioner, D D Ingty, told reporters here.
The Carbon Dioxide (CO2) pistols, which come under the category of Air Pistols, are restricted. Following suspicion, customs officials today searched the consignment, which was at the private container freight station, and recovered the pistols concealed in furniture.
Customs officials are searching the residential premises of a man hailing from Thrissur. No arrests have been made so far.
Meantime, preliminary report stated that the container with arms was imported by Royal Group (Thachankary Enterprises) owned by IG Tomin J Thachankary’s brother.
The arms were recovered from the terminal which handles the group’s container. The godown has been locked till the customs team arrives from Chennai for a detailed investigation.
