Thrissur: While the authorities of the district administration are busy counting the heads of the victims in the political clashes, the entire coastline extending from Valappad, via Nattika, Thalikkulam to Vadanappilly is witnessing a unique harvest by a top business group which is buying acres of land in the coastline.

The reason for this purchase is reportedly the building of a resort, while sources say there are other more reasons for this buyout.

About 40 acres of land has been bought so far. One of the residents in Thalikulam says: “There is a unique phenomenon. The land near the beach is costing anywhere between 10,000 to 15,000 per cent, while the land near the national highway with all the facilities is costing only Rs 6000-7000.”

The particular business group with strong contacts in Dubai and Gulf region is reportedly close to the Government. A fisherman, who has sold his land to this group says: “I wonder if in the future, the fishing community will have to construct a bridge from the land to the sea to go fishing.”
