Hindu intellectuals voice concern over Nandigram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a joint statement by writers,  Hindu scholars and intellectuals,expressed   expressed concern over the turn of events at Nandigram in West Bengal.


 


“The Nandigram issue has assumed the dimensions of a national disaster due to the long-term implications of opening up a village to a multinational and also on account of the police action and strong-arm tactics of the CPI-M,” they said in a joint statement here today.


 


The danger involved in opening up Nandigram to the multinational group would be multifarious. That included rendering the borders porous for the Bangladeshi infiltrators to enter, Said.


 


What was at risk was national security and it was necessary to mobilise public opinion in support of the people’s resistance at Nandigram, they said.


 


The signatories included poets Vishnunarayanan Namboodiri, P Naryana Kurup, P Parameswaran (Director, Bharathiya Vicharakendram) and Prof V R Probodhachandran Nair (former chairman, Kerala Kala Mandalam).
